I've been staying at Paul's farmhouse up in the hills for the past few days, and it's been fantastic. Sad to leave. I posed about him a ways back, before he had done too much renovation up there. Now, he's fully insulated the place, put up drywall on most of it, created a kitchen, and overall really made it quite comfortable to live in. No plumbing yet, but there's a sink (that drains to a location yet to be announced), so you make due pretty well. Summertime outdoor showers are probably in store, but at the moment you have to use the house up the road's shower...and the toilet, well, you know....
My first day I had sort of a panic, knowing previously I'd have limited phone and no internet, but actually experiencing the lack of these things. I didn't actually panic, but there were moments when I didn't know what to do with myself. By day two I was okay with this, and not only finished all my school work at an alarming rate, but also wrote in my journal, read two short stories, worked on my patterns, and went on a long walk.
Yesterday I woke up feeling pretty sick, some sort of cold-flu-like thing, so I mostly slept all day, but did wake up to do some sewing and tried out one of my new patterns. I think I like the pattern, but the fabric I worked with was a nightmare...nylon lycra blend. I'm looking forward to using nice organic cotton soon...
Oh, I forgot to mention Orion! He's my new homeslice. Seriously, the best cat in the world. You tell him no, and he listens. 'Nuff said.
Today I head to London for a week...looking forward to it, but also kind of wanting to stay and chill. Mostly wanting to camp out at the farmhouse for a little longer, and also wanting to take advantage of a week off school and nice weather. There's some fun stuff that I've been working on recently...
Me and Sarah Watson on Turning Point, the Satellite Boulders...so rough on the fingers and hamstrings!
